This week we focused primarily on our Shakespearean drama project, and poem of the week stuff. For our Shakespearean drama project our group chose to focus on Edmund for our presentation because he evolves more throughout the story than Cordelia does. Our introduction for our paper is going to be very interesting because we are going to talk about women's roles in Shakespeare's time or the Renaissance era. With our introduction we already have two outside sources to use, and we are thinking about the third one being in reference to the psychology of King Lear as a character. I found talking with Dr. McDermott to be very helpful because she gave us some more ideas about why the women were portrayed the way they were in the play. She made us realize that the two sisters Regan and Gordelia make a case that women cannot be trusted in positions of power. She also shows us that the very virtues that King Lear admired about Cordelia caused the tragedy in the first place. I am looking forward to seeing what we produce as our final paper and presentation.
In terms of the poem of the week this week was more difficult than previous weeks. The second one by Gluck was definitely the harder one to understand because of the wording, and due to the fact that it could mean a variety of things. I would like to continue to have two poems of the week because I still have trouble writing essays with two poems. I think it would also help to see example essays that involve two poems that scored a nine.
