When we were working on our creative writing I have decided to write a story about a father who experienced the Gulags in Soviet Russia, and before he dies he wants his son Ivan to write his life story in hopes of convincing people to turn against communism. I have been inspired by the book I am reading One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich but the story is obviously much different. One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich is a good book because it shows you a aspect of history that people often forget. In fact, most people don't realize that more people died in the Gulags than in the Nazi concentration camps. I have found over the years that I am often inspired to write stories based on other stories, and my experience is reflected in Foster's How to Read Literature Like a Professor.
