This week we focused on our What is Literature? project. I have learned a a lot throughout the process. For example, I have learned how to refine my points, and decide what is important to put into my presentation. I feel like our previous English classes don't really focus on presentations we focus more narrowly on essays. The format of the class was more like read a book and then write a essay on it. I have also learned that a good presentation flows well from slide to slide, and that you need good transitions in order to do that. I found this really helpful because I am taking Speech at Central right now, and part of our grade for our speeches about our transitions from point to point. I have also learned that the elements of fantasy in literature are vastly different from commerical fantasy that we see in movies, and that it doesn't always contain magic and imaginary creatures.
Throughout working on my What is Literature? project I have also affirmed things that I had previously learned. For example, in Honors English 9 we focused a little bit on the elements of fiction, but we predominately focused on theme, symbolism, and humor. I have found looking back at my past english classes that we have focused heavily on symbolism and theme the most. I have also affirmed the fact that many people need a more visual presentation with short and to the point text because most people are visual learners. This has been previously very difficult for me because I am predominately a auditory learner, and didn't realize that most people are visual learners.
